We had a sad day this past week when our horse Charlie passed away from complications after having colic. Charlie had been a part of our farm family for the last 25 years. He was born here on our farm and 6 weeks after he was born, his mother died from heart failure. We raised Charlie on a bottle and he became everyone’s buddy. He was a kind, gentle horse. Charlie was a part of a lot of things with our family. He took us on family wagon rides, sleigh rides, and pulled the wagon to feed the beef cows. Two years ago, he was part of the team that pulled the hearse for grandma’s funeral. He was the last of the Shire horses we raised from Grandpa Morgan’s Shire mares. He was a favorite of all of us including the grandkids. We will miss him.
